Giving 100% - Fairbanks

Alexis Fairbanks was nominated by school personnel to attend the National Youth Leaders Conference for one week this summer in Washington D.C. The National Young Leaders Conference is designed to instruct and enrich promising students in a hands-on, experiential atmosphere while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership. This opportunity for Alexis, who is an outstanding young scholar, is one she greatly deserves.

Alexis recently transitioned to the Independent Living Transitional Housing Program with Project Focus, where she shares a two-bedroom apartment with another ILP youth. Alexis is described by her case manager as a mature, highly motivated, driven and self-reliant youth. Alexis’s academic performance is above average, as she ranks 134 in her class of 830 students. Her overall GPA is 3.36 and she is on track to graduate in 2011.

In addition to being nominated to attend the conference, Alexis’s submitted a request for a scholarship award to cover the cost of the conference in the amount of $2,359.00, which she was selected to receive. Although she received the scholarship award, she had a small share of cost for tuition and flight for the conference. Children’s Fund was able to provide this special young lady the funds to join other outstanding peers at the National Young Leaders Conference.

You give one hundred percent and so do we!

Children’s Fund was created in 1986 and is the non-profit member of the San Bernardino County Children’s Network. Our purpose is to call to action private businesses, non-profit organizations and concerned citizens to form a public/private partnership. This partnership provides Children’s Fund an administrative overhead from the County so that 100% of every dollar raised by the fund goes directly to a child in need.

Children’s Fund serves children in three major categories:

Our mission is to prevent child abuse in our community; to ensure that at- risk children who are abused, neglected, impoverished, or abandoned receive adequate food, shelter, clothing, medical care and education; and to provide equal opportunity for social development for these children.
